    August 2020 indie game releases

August 2020 is shaping up to be an excellent month for indie game releases. There’s so much variety too, so you’re sure to find something you enjoy. Each month I feature new release indie games that I’m looking forward to playing. Here are my picks for August 2020: Windbound Website | Twitter Platforms: PC (Steam & Epic), Xbox, PS4 and Switch Release date: 28th August 2020 Genres: Adventure, survival, RPG Caught at sea during a fierce storm, Kara is shipwrecked on a deserted island. With no food, tools or way home, she must forage what she needs from the island to survive. Survival games aren’t usually my thing, but when…

  • Rörka - the raven guardian

    Röki review

Röki begins with brother and sister Lars and Tove playing down on the beach. It’s time for dinner, but Lars doesn’t want to leave, he wants to play with his monster friends. Tove thinks these monsters are all in his imagination, but could it be more than that? Tove and Lars live in a modest house with their father, but it hasn’t been the same since Mamma died five years ago though. Pappa is a shell of his former self and Tove has had to raise Lars, although she is a child herself. One night a monster attacks their house and chases them as they flee to the village. Tove…

  • KeyWe - mailroom with Cassowary Couriers

    KeyWe – First look

Run, jump and butt-slam your way around in KeyWe to get the mail out to the people (or maybe other kiwis?). Help out Jeff and Debra as they jump, dash and peck their way through the post office as they transcribe telegrams, send letters and parcels, and all sorts of other post officey things. KeyWe is a couch co-op game but can be played through Steam Remote Play if you want to play it with online friends. It works well as a co-op game and is far less chaotic than something like Overcooked. At least in the demo. The trailer shows more complexity as the levels progress, like having to…

  • Duru game - Tuli running away from Bel

    Duru – July Kickstarter spotlight

Ever wondered what it’s like for a mole rat to have depression? I admit I hadn’t either, but Duru takes us on just that journey. Focusing on misunderstandings and issues people have in their day to day life, Duru follows the story of Tuli, a mole rat with depression. Tuli also has a companion Bel who can either help or hinder her through the puzzles we encounter in the game. I love the concept of having a companion that isn’t necessarily there to help you. It’s an unusual feature in a game and a great visualisation of depression. Twisted Ramble Games, the studio behind Duru, aims to increase awareness of…

  • Roki - July indie game release

    July 2020 Indie Game releases

There are fewer indie game releases for July than I was expecting, but that’s ok. We need a bit of a breather after the craziness of June! The quality of games in July is excellent. I am looking forward to playing most of these games, and maybe I’ll actually have time this month. Here are my picks for indie game releases for July 2020: Röki Website | Twitter Platforms: PC (Steam & Gog) and Nintendo Switch Release date: 23rd July 2020 Genres: Adventure, puzzle Inspired by Scandinavian folklore, Röki takes us deep into a fantastical world of monsters and magic. Follow Tove on a journey to save her family, as…
