Wholesome Direct 2021 – list of games

Today we celebrated Wholesome Direct 2021 with a huge lineup of delightfully wholesome games. All of the game events this week can be a bit overwhelming, but Wholesome Direct is like a nice, warm hug. It is the event I look forward to the most. With a huge amount of games showcased, it can be difficult to find information on the ones you loved, so below, you’ll find a list filled with your favourites. They’re sorted in alphabetical order, but you can change any of the columns. There is a description of each game and a link to their website, wishlist and Twitter accounts. If you need more Wholesome Games…

    IWOCon is here!

Ahoy me mateys, IWOCon is here! So, set sail for the gaming islands in this pirate-themed virtual convention. IWOCon has done an excellent job at mimicking real convention booths in an unreal setting. Choose your avatar and set sail for the high seas! Yes, in IWOCon, you have your very own pirate ship to sail, complete with cannons. You have the option of visiting the islands by your boat or using the fast travel system on the islands. Once you’re ready to anchor at an island, grab a hat and a parrot and see everything IWOCon has on offer! Does that sound like something you want to get involved in?…

  • Beacon Pines - one of the games featured in the Steam Game Festival

Super Steam Game Festival 2021 Demos

The Steam Game Festival is here for 2021, and there are more than 500 demos included! Unfortunately, I don’t have enough clones (or any) to get through anywhere near that many demos, and I imagine you don’t either. I have been able to play quite a few, though, and there’s still time to play even more! Here are my choices of where to start the festival. Beacon Pines Website | Twitter | Wishlist/demo Genre: Adventure, choices matter Platforms: PC (Steam & itch.io) and Nintendo Switch Release date: Sept 2021 Beacon Pines starts in the pages of a book, but this is no ordinary book for no one knows the ending yet, not even the…

There are so many awesome devs involved, games to buy and demos to try. I had a great time with many demos, and my favourites are below. • Wholesome Games Jam - October 3rd to 5th 2020

Wholesome Games Jam – My first Jam

Last weekend (3rd – 5th of October) I participated in my first game jam: The Wholesome Games jam – a game jam for wholesome games, which is probably obvious. I’ve never joined a game jam before because it always felt like a space for devs, and I didn’t want to not sleep for two days to get something out. The Wholesome Games jam was different though, everyone was invited and you could be a shadow member if you weren’t too confident in jumping right in. It was also encouraged to get sleep and rest when you needed to. The fun was in the experience, rather than what the end game…

  • Growbot at PAX Online

Play at PAX Online – Awesome demos to try

PAX is here again, and this time it goes for nine whole days! That isn’t the only difference, this year PAX is all online, so it doesn’t matter where you live, you can join in! Though, the panel schedule might not work out quite so nicely as a physical PAX event does. As part of PAX, there are some excellent demos to try out, here are some that I enjoyed playing: Button City Website | Twitter | Wishlist Genre: Adventure, cute Platforms: PC Release date: Unknown Join Fennel the fox and his animal friends as they try to save their local game arcade from the greedy fat cat Peppermint Pepperbottom!…

  • Gamescom 2020 - Demo for Nine Noir Lives

Must try demos from Indie Arena Booth 2020

Gamescom 2020 is here, and the Indie Arena Booth has done some fantastic work with their virtual booth. Step into the booth, and you’re presented with a vast pixel art virtual convention floor, with nearly 200 indie games represented. Pick your avatar, and choose a game, then you can walk around and learn about all it. There are also heaps of demos to find, play and enjoy. Here’s the list of my favourites:

  • Indie Wold Showcase - Raji running upstairs

August Nintendo Indie World Showcase Favourites

The August Nintendo Indie World Showcase happened today and there were many surprise releases in the bunch, as well as a look at some lovely future titles. With so many sneaky Switch releases happening, it’s an awesome time to check out the Nintendo eShop to find something new to play. There were a lot of great titles mentioned, so I thought I’d post my favourites.

  • Wholesome Direct

    Wholesome Direct list of games

Today was the very first Wholesome Direct by Wholesome Games! Wholesome Direct is a game showcase of, you guessed it, wholesome games. Growing up, I enjoyed playing games, mostly sim builder games, but as I grew up, online games became more popular and the reign of the FPS and MMO began. I wondered if this was the end of my game playing days because neither was something I was interested in. It was only in recent years that I got back into games because I found the vast world of indie games. It’s been amazing to find so many games I’ve been interested in, as well as awesome communities. I…

  • Women and NB Gamers Club Event – Florence

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) of Australia is currently running a video gaming exhibition called Game Masters. The exhibition is about all things game including the history of video games, all sorts of collectables, as well as 80 games to play! While I haven’t been to the exhibition yet, I did get a chance to attend the first (and maybe only) Canberra Women and Non-Binary Gamers Club. The Gamer’s Club is essentially a book club except for games. Unlike a book club, we didn’t need to have played the game before we arrived. We had one hour to play the game and do some colouring while chatting with…
