• The beautiful world of GRIS - a combat free, storytelling game

My favourite combat free games of 2019

I love when a game’s story, graphics and soundtrack are so atmospheric and engaging that combat isn’t required to make it exciting. Games that I can play and not have to consider why I’m beating up everything that moves. 2019 was an excellent year for non-combat indie games, with some garnering huge audiences (hello Untitled Goose Game) and a bunch of awards. It awesome see these types of games gaining more popularity, so I thought I’d share my five favourites for the year. First Look – Faerie Afterlight

Faerie Afterlight introduces us to Kimo and Wispy who are on a mission to find the pieces of Lucentia, a glorious light that shone over Lumina. Together they are trying to find the shards of Lucentia and bring light back to Lumina. Faerie Afterlight is still in development, but there is a demo available…

  • Unfamiliar game cat tree house

    Review – Unfamiliar

Ever wanted to be a witchy cat who gets to craft? That’s fortunate because in Unfamiliar you get to do just that! If you said no, I’m sure you’ll still have some fun. Unfamiliar is a relaxing game where you play as witchy cat Yew who loves to craft items such as hats, skins and scratch towers. Unfamiliar starts with Yew sitting in a big treehouse, but much of the branches aren’t accessible when we begin the game. There are no instructions in Unfamiliar, so you just need to jump in and give it a go. Fortunately, you can hover over areas and they are outlined in yellow. This gives…

  • Women and NB Gamers Club Event – Florence

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) of Australia is currently running a video gaming exhibition called Game Masters. The exhibition is about all things game including the history of video games, all sorts of collectables, as well as 80 games to play! While I haven’t been to the exhibition yet, I did get a chance to attend the first (and maybe only) Canberra Women and Non-Binary Gamers Club. The Gamer’s Club is essentially a book club except for games. Unlike a book club, we didn’t need to have played the game before we arrived. We had one hour to play the game and do some colouring while chatting with…
