I love the selection of April 2021 indie game releases! I decided to split the new releases post up into two because the months are just jam-packed with games! Recently, many games only announce their release dates a few weeks (or even days!) out from release, and they get missed on my monthly posts. Sizeable review
Resize the moon to change the tides. Grow or shrink the sun to change the seasons. Sizeable is a fun puzzle game filled with adorably themed dioramas where clues are revealed by resizing and placing items. There is also a super cute turtle hidden in each level for you to discover. Gameplay Sizeable is not a challenging game. There is minimal UI, and everything you need in each level is available to you in a compact world. March 2021 indie game releases
Indie new releases for 2021 are ramping up with some awesome selections in March! I’ve played the demo for quite a few of these games, and they’ve all been fantastic. Here’s hoping the full releases are just as fun. There is always a good variety among the games, so hopefully, you’ll find something to enjoy. Super Steam Game Festival 2021 Demos
The Steam Game Festival is here for 2021, and there are more than 500 demos included! Unfortunately, I don’t have enough clones (or any) to get through anywhere near that many demos, and I imagine you don’t either. My favourite combat free games of 2020
The year 2020 was a year like nothing most of us have experienced before, but indie devs persevered. There were heaps of excellent indie titles released in 2020, and many of them were combat free! It’s been fabulous to see the emergence of more and more combat free games. They’re usually also gorgeous to look at, with engaging stories and wonderful soundtracks. My list comprises my top 5 combat-free games for the year, but there are many more out there. So many that I didn’t get a chance even to try all the ones I wanted to. Dorfromantik – First look
Adorable and full of charm, Dorfromantik is a lovely hex tile placement town-builder game. Dorfromantik is designed for casual play and would probably work well as a mobile game. To begin the game, you start with a set of tiles to place. Gain points for good placement and get more tiles by completing quests. The game is over when you run out of tiles. I didn’t understand the quest system properly to begin with and had to go back to the tutorial, but it’s quite simple once you get into it. Every month I feel a bit like a broken record because I mention how impressive the line up of new releases is, and December is no different. December’s indie game releases are looking excellent, with so many titles it was hard to decide which to feature in this post. I’ve been able to narrow it down to a superb selection. Omno – First look
Take a journey through an ancient world in the atmospheric adventure game, Omno. With a gorgeous landscape and beautiful soundtrack, the Omno demo is a delight for the senses. Adventure through forests, deserts and tundras, and maybe you’ll see a dinosaur along the way! The Omno demo throws you into the world without a much direction, but it does help you along with controls and an objective. Other than that, you’re left to your own devices to explore your surroundings. Fortunately, the surroundings are gorgeous and filled with trees, towering cliff-faces, and the occasional dinosaur. YesterMorrow review
YesterMorrow is a gorgeous precision platformer that dabbles with time travel elements. Yui and her family are celebrating the Festival of Light when the shadows invade. Yui runs to alert the Grandmaster about what has happened at the village, but she falls into a deep hole and doesn’t reach him in time. Fast forward a few years and the world is bleak. The shadows have stolen the sun, and many people are missing. Yui learns she can travel between the past and present and can use this ability, along with the Everlight, to return light to the world and banish the shadows forever.
