Cool indie game demos to play!

I played a bunch of demos in August as part of Gamescom and other festivals, and thought I’d share them so others can find them too! They were pretty much all cute combat-free games. Just my style! I love the rise of combat-free games in indies!

Name: Railbound

What’s it about? Railbound is a cute little puzzle game where you need to play train tracks to get the train from A to B. Initially, it’s fairly simple, but gets more and more complex as levels progress.

Name: Chessarama

Demo still available? Yes

What’s it about? Chessarama is an interesting puzzle game where you need to complete a task using chess pieces. The pieces can only move in their chess pattern. Some of the levels are about growing plants, some are about defeating enemies. It’s an interesting take on chess.

Name: Feed all Monsters

What’s it about? Another puzzle game! It turns out I played this board-style of puzzle game a lot this month! In Feed All Monsters you need to make a trail to get to a monster. Each character you play only has a limited amount of steps though! You might think that once you reach the monster you need to defeat them, but no! You need to give them a tasty meal! Super cute and fun.

Name: Harmony’s Odyssey

What’s it about? Play as Harmony, a cute little witch as she tries to tend to her garden, but her naughty little cat thwarts her plans. There are a bunch of mini-games in the demo. It was a bit disjointed, but the devs seem to be taking on the feedback to make it a bit more cohesive. Super bright and cute though.

Name: AKA

What’s it about? The war is over and Aka is looking for some inner peace. A friend invites him to a lovely little island where you can farm, build or just relax. There are also a bunch of quests to complete for the island locals. Aka was technically a playtest, but it was demo length. It looks promising and that art style is charming, but it was pretty buggy during the playtest. Definitely something to wishlist though.

Name: Soulitaire

What’s it about? Open a fortune-telling cafe, complete with a cute little cat (which is mentioned but not seen in the demo) and read people’s cards through a solitaire-style game. Once you complete the game you will be presented with an image to interpret for your customers. Will it be good or bad? This demo was great! It still needs some work, but I enjoyed the idea and am looking forward to watching it progress.

Name: Paper Trail

What’s it about? Another puzzle game! It’s time for Paige to leave home to pursue her studies. On the way, you will need to fold the world to get to your destination. Fold the pages up, down, side to side and on the diagonal to build your path. Paper Trail is a gorgeous game with a great mechanic!
