Project Grove – February Kickstarter Spotlight

The Kickstarter Spotlight is back, and this month we’re looking at Project Grove. Project Grove is a first-person 3D puzzle platformer that finds us in a land of alchemy, danger and steam power. Playing as world-renowned alchemist Edric Tate, along with his automaton companion L-P1N, it is up to us to explore the world of Dacrima and, hopefully, make a discovery that will save humanity. The world is plagued by The Great Rot, and the government has no idea how to cure it.  They have enlisted alchemy and robotics company Potentium to find a cure and save the world. Potentium believes that the birthplace of magic, Dacrima, holds the key…

Cyberpunk Bar Sim – September Kickstarter Spotlight

It’s true, we don’t know a lot about Cyberpunk Bar Sim right now but I love a good tycoon game and the trailer made me want to see where this leads us. Cyberpunk Bar Sim is a tycoon game set in a dystopian future and is inspired by the gameplay of Game Dev Tycoon and the style of VA-11 Hall-A. It’s up to us to manage our bar well so we can upgrade and grow in popularity. This requires talking to the regulars and finding out more lives of the androids and humans that stop in for a drink. All of this while listening to a sweet selection of chill,…

  • Ayo The Clown – August Kickstarter Spotlight

Do you want a game that will make you vomit rainbows and unicorns? Well, you’re in luck because the team at Cloud M1 are promising just that with their indie platformer Ayo The Clown. When I first watched the Kickstarter trailer it reminded me of games from my childhood like Commander Keen, Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventures, Duke Nukem (before he went 3D) and, more recently, The Adventure Pals. This isn’t surprising either. The devs have taken inspiration from 90’s platformers and want to re-introduce us to the world of fun platformers. Ayo is just a clown living his life in his peaceful town who likes to juggle with his dog, Bo.…

July Kickstarter Spotlight – Orange Island

Many games have come about because of a successful Kickstarter project (we highlighted a few of them here) and I wish I had known about them at that time. For that reason, I’ll be showcasing a current Kickstarter game each month. Today’s Kickstarter spotlight is on Orange Island; Described as an action-adventure RPG with heart. It starts with a fun summer vacation and turns a bit dark with a story about family, friendship, hope, bravery, and our impact on the environment. It is a single-player 8-bit platformer that is being developed to have a truly authentic feel of classic NES games. In fact, they hit a stretch goal to make…

    5 Awesome, Successful Kickstarter Games

Last year I went to PAX AUS and at one of the presentations a panelist made a comment about how good games don’t come from kickstarters. I was a little taken aback by this because I knew of several great games that have started with a Kickstarter. So today I thought I’d make a post about five great games that were successful Kickstarter campaigns. I hope you find an awesome new game to play and might be enticed to check out some live Kickstarter projects.
